It has become time to upgrade computers again. I am looking at a Dell laptop this time the Voltros (or something like that). My question is for updating quickbooks 2007. I currently run XP but the new laptop will have Vista. XP is supposed to stop being produced in June so I figured maybe I will get the learning curve done now and get Vista. Does Quickbooks 07 work ok with Vista? According to the Quickbooks website it is supposed to be compatible. I was wondering if anyone has real life experience with this.

IMHO stick with XP Pro as long as you can, I HATE VISTA.
Can't tell you whether QB 07 works with it, but I can tell you 03 doesn't & 05 w/update doesn't either. I now have QB 08 and they turned what was a very nice contractor friendly program into a PITA, to many hoops to jump through just to do a simple task like backing up your data.

Even if it doesn't, you can run your old apps in a virtual PC with your old XP OS if you need to. It will run in Vista Business, Enterprise, & Ultimate.

I run a Windows 2000 VM for some old apps I have that won't run on XP Pro.

ever thought of linux? we are just beginning the process of converting to linux. windows is just too much work to keep running.

If you do not need it for work with MS specific programs try an Apple. My daughter just switched and LOVES it. no issues so far. My sister had Apple's for years and no issues her job changed and she had to go PC and HATES IT.

Now either Apples are better or when you buy one you swear allegiance to Apple and lie about their quality to comply with the oath you have taken. I know of no one to maybe one (and this guy just is a complainer) Apple user that complains about his Mac.

Spend the extra money on the "upgrade" to WinXP. In the long run, you'll be much happier. Oh, and consider either a Panasonic toughbook or an Lenovo Thinkpad (formerly IBM), they're built for the business user and in general have better support. (I'm on my third T-series Thinkpad in 8 years. The original is still working fine, it's just a lot slower than the newest one. The second is still in heavy use as I transition to the newest.)

(Many serious users won't consider a microsoft O/S product before service pack 1 is released, and then they're still cautious about it.)

Stick with XP or wait until about the second service pack for Vista.

Just updated 9 computers in the office 2 months ago, we stayed with XP. We get about 3 years out of are computers for the CAD stations, so will look at Linux for the computers, Vista is a PITA. Set up a FTP site using Linux about 3 months ago, will have to say what a great OS.

We have currently run Vista and Quickbooks 07 since June of 07. The only problem that we have had is if you are using multi-user. Then we are having problems with the other PC being able to see the Administrator's. We learned that if we shut off the Firewall that seems to help, but doesnt really appear to be the solution, since we don't want our Firewall always turned of. Yes, we have tried adding Quickbooks to our exceptions list under the firewall and that doesn't work.

Good luck.

I still have two particular programs that I have to run from a DOS window. One I made, and the other is Polywater's old Pull-Planner program.

Don't technology upgrades bite you in the behind? I just don't feel like re-writing a lot of the good old stuff I've had for years.

One day, I'm going to move all of the stuff I have on 5.25 & 3.5 to CDs. Of course, I have been saying that for almost eight years now.

I did that a while back, since it was becoming more difficult to put a floppy drive in a PC. I forgot, I still run ProComm+ sometimes for to talk to some phone systems, and that's DOS.
