Can Elevator Recall Smoke Detector Also Serve Area

I have a question regarding the elevator recall smoke detector, can it also serve the protection function required by code just outside a bedroom, or must a separate smoke detector be placed right next to it for the bedroom protection.

In a dwelling unit, the detectors are supposed to operate in multi-station mode, so with no elevator, that would be a smoke alarm and not a system-type detector.

But addressable detectors can be programmed to operate like smoke alarms and only sound within the dwelling unit. So if you are using an addressable system, that could be a dual-purpose device - doing recall and sounding only the alarms in that dwelling.

Are you sure that's not a LULA elevator? If so, it doesn't need a recall detector.
