Sure looks like an ideal sitaution for a remote R/C pushbutton & latching relay (same as a garage door opener)

It would be an NEC violation , perhaps two.

I agree with Augie. It would be much easier to use an RF switch. It will save you time ,energy and money. And will look better, plus it would be code compliant.

I agree with Augie and Buck, remote control is the way to go for a number of reasons.

Sub-section 225.30(D) almost lets you do it, though, but not quite if the buildings have different services.

I'm stupid how can someones garage be across a privite road, I do understand how it could happen! But I would also make sure that it's not a "Right of way"; even some other name; verses a private road...This really gets into legal expressions!

Radio RA is and will be my first choice...

Or even some of the PLC type X-10 controls*. If a private way - UG a LV switching control and relay....

*I once had a service call where a neighbor had been suggesting Leviton X-devises to his neighbors - unbeknownst the them they had the same addressing and no filtering at the main. The neighbor unknowingly was controling the dining room lighting - "sometimes it just shuts off and turns on all on it's own..." :D I only figured it out in conversation... "Your neighbor helped you set it up?!?"

"So that's what "house code" means!"
Yep - it took several trips to figure this out too... It got to the point where I was going to scrap the whole thing and start fresh in Radio RA - which was in other parts of the house. After head scratching about this thing tearing my hair out cursing that X-10 crap.... Owner says "Oh yeah - Our neighbor put those in for us - he has a bunch all over his house and loves them..... "

Then a few minutes later I was knocking on his door - but he wasn't home.... My client called him later that night and asked if he could go around his house turning lights off and on. Low and behold - one in his hall or something operated thier dining chandelier... Next time I went down there - I was re-addressing everything and putting in a filter on thier main...

FYI this was way before this commercial came out - but I laugh everytime I see it...
