410.10(D) does not mention a recessed light in the list of luminaires that are not allowed in a shower area. The ceiling is lower than 8 feet. Is one allowed?

410.10 (D) Bathtub and Shower Areas. No parts of cord-connected luminaires, chain-, cable-, or cord-suspended luminaires, lighting track, pendants, or ceiling-suspended (paddle) fans shall be located within a zone measured 900 mm (3 ft) horizontally and 2.5 m (8 ft) vertically from the top of the bathtub rim or shower stall threshold.

For the recessed can light fixtures that i am used to seeing, the trim kit that you use will be the determining factor on if the fixture is damp/wet location listed or not. They also will generally require that they are GFCI protected.

The ones we use are GU10 LED 12V units. No GFCI protection.

If it is a standard can you just use a "shower" trim. Readily available from Halo and the like. Not sure how the wafer style LEDs are rated.

Used these 4" more than once. Low profile, IC rated, IP 56 rated, wet rated with the right trim...Halo H245RICAT. Bunch of Halo trims are wet rated and good looking. Only thing you can't do is spray foam them in.
