Hello!

I have a shredder with a nameplate that says: 220V 3-phase 60 Hz. I would like to be able to use this equipment via a portable generator. The one I am looking at is the Subaru RGV13100T - 10,000 Watt Electric Start Generator (208V - 3-Phase). Will it run my shredder?

Please help!

Thank you!!!
Ken

A shredder that needs 10kW? Must be a beast.

If it is 220V

If it is 220V

If it is 220 V on the nametag there should be no problem. generally a motor is ok with +/- %10 of rated voltage. So 220V motor is 22v up or down so 198-242v. Just make sure you check the frequency that is on the motor 220v three phase may be 50hz European.

In which case the V/f ratio would be severely off (change in numerator and denominator would work in the same direction) leading to a significant decrease in motor torque and power.

The OP stated that it was 60Hz on the nameplate.

Not sure what you mean by shredder, we have a machine we call a shredder: 480V, 150hp that we use to grind polyethylene. I have a paperless chart recorder monitoring the motor current (the reason is a whole other story) and the thing produces severe current spikes on a regular basis. You'll want to be sure everything is sized properly.

Yes, shredder is a fairly generic term, there are some that probably make yours look small as well.

Yeah they had a 400 hp in the warehouse when we looked at ours. Terrifying.

could be a car shredder or tub grinder, but those typically have 600-800HP engines powering them, not electric motors. Maybe this is a cardboard shredder or large (mobile) paper shredder. 10kw genset isnt going to tolerate jams and subsequent current spikes too well, unless the machine has auto reverse/auto shutdown/etc.
