Feeling too lazy to search the inter webs right now for this, and I’m on a different project, so here I am.

I have a covered deck coming up that is getting 5/8 CDX and 3/4 T&G cedar over that.

I need to put can lights in there. I usually use Halo. I could mount them so the rim is flush with plywood, but I’m concerned that the trim rings won’t fit in being held out an extra 3/4”.

Anyone do this often enough to have an easy solution?

Halo cans have a bit of adjustment. If you get it so that it is flush with the plywood then you can loosen the 3 screws inside the can and lower the canister from the bracket.

I would install new-work cans with the housings lowered to the final 1-3/8" depth, and let the ceiling guys make the holes.

I’ll be using new work cans.

Didn’t know the housing inside was adjustable.

I’ll have to check out the ones I have when I get back to the shop.
