We have a grass root project, four new generators will be installed to generate power, the power will be transferred to power transmission line. A question was asked, will the synchrounous generators be able to improve the system power factor or capacitor bank need to be installed to maintain required 0.95 system p.f.?

The Facility Loads Dictate the Power Factor

The Facility Loads Dictate the Power Factor

The load dictates what the power factor will be. If you are going to run the generators in parallel with the utility, you can then turn up the excitation voltage which will produce more kVAR. Less kVAR from the utility means it will look like (when viewed from the utility) that you have improved the PF.
