Can UF be run exposed if not subject to damage?

Can UF be run exposed if not subject to damage, such as along the rafter of a covered porch to a light on the ceiling, UF feeder would go into a water tight fitting into a water proof box. The ceiling is 8'-9'.

I don't see any problem with that install allthough a piece of PVC- on a straight run- may make it look better
