So I'm getting ready to rough a basement. It's going to be a finished basement, and I can't find in the code book for the life of me if my recepticles should be on a 15 or 20 amp circut. I know I have to afci them being in a finished basement, but I sure a hell want it done right the first Time! Anyone!

Basement receptacles can either be on a 15 or a 20 amp circuit unless your area has an amendment that states #12 wire is the smallest.

Back in the day NYC code required a minimum of #12 conductors and only allowed 15 amp general purpose branch circuits so couldn't #12 be on either a 15 or a 20 amp circuit? :)

Anyway Dennis had the correct answer 15 or 20 amp unless there is some local amendment.
