Lately I have been seeing carflex being glued directly to PVC fittings. I'm thinking this is not permitted. It seems to work but doesn't seem right. A violation I assume?

Yes, it's not listed for that. I've done it too as well as plenty of other electricians I know. But using fittings is the proper way to go.

I've also glued smurf tube directly into PVC as well.

I've never done it, they make proper fittings for it that are stocked everywhere, so I'm not sure why a person wouldn't use them??

That I know, but I'm pretty sure it's not listed to glue it directly into a bell end of PVC. Not that it makes much difference.
Is the bell end not considered a coupling, which is a fitting?

If not then maybe we need to cut them off and use proper fittings?

Here is how I would do it...

Are LFNC connectors not permitted to be used in female adapters? Could it be an NPT vs NPSM thread issue?

Where do you see the carflex connector in the picture ?

One who didn't know better might glue the carflex into the threaded portion of the PVC Female adapter and think it was fine.

I am assuming one knows that a connector would be used... sorry it wasn't obvious

I'm with you Dennis, but keep in mind we had some who were considering gluing Carflex directly into pvc couplings on the end of pvc pipe.
:p no offense intended.

It's tempting.
I have yet to see a pvc to carflex cemented together that held up.
I only seen a few though.
I have, but they need to be secured close to the connection and out of reach of physical abuse.

Don't count on it being watertight, but from my experience don't count on the interior of the raceway remain dry anyway.
