Carhartt FR clothing

Anyone have any experience with Carhartt FR clothing? I' ve heard some of the older FR can be hot and uncomfortable.

I guess I have a few of their FR shirts. I like them fine.

People complain about FR materials in general being more scratchy than normal. I'm not really one that minds "scratchy" clothes, so I'm a bad one to gauge. I can say however that the FR materials are more stiff than ordinary materials that are treated by some means to get their FR rating.

I wear tyndale, bullwark, and carhart clothing everyday. I like the tyndale fr the best, some of their shirts are more comfortable than normal shirts.

Wouldn't "itchy" clothing be better than having a chest that look liked Freddy Kruegers face????

I hear manufacturer's are starting to make the stuff more comfortable,though I have not bought any new items.I received some training recently on arc flash and ppe. You have to be careful and follow guidelines on washing or you can damage the protection. It is said that the air temp. can reach 16,000 degrees during an arc flash! Talk about "hot and uncomfortable"!!

We wear the Bullwark and Tyndale stuff at work . There's a ton of different styles and I haven't found any to be scratchy or uncomfortable .

Just a side note . One of our guys was working inside of a 480 volt transfer switch and shorted something out . The flash was horrendous .
His long sleeve FR shirt and safety glasses saved his butt .

I am assuming you are talking about arc rated clothing, FR is not necessarly arc rated, there are different types of FR ratings.

That said, the new Carhart arc rated water repelent duck material is similar to the reqular carharts, it uses the Indura technology and has decent performance data. Not the most comfortable, but holds up well to the elements.

If comfort is what you are looking for you wont find anything better for the price than Tyndales Indura Ultra Soft interlock knit hennley and crew neck shirts, around 10.9 cal/cm2 and feels like your most comfortable T-Shirt. Another well known company makes the same shirt but charges twice as much.

For higher levels of protection (CAT 3 and 4) PBI Gold offers the most comfort and breatheability, combine that with Salisburys new hood cooling system and thats a suit you can actually work in.

I could go on, I have worn and tested( Or at least witnessed) almost everything out on the market, if you are comparing 2 specific manufactures and style#'s let me know and I will provide feedback.

I haven't tried the Carhart arc rated shirts because they are imported and cost about 50% more than a US made shirt that uses the same fabric.
I do have their jacket and like all of the other arc rated clothing I have, I see no difference in comfort. I have two objection to the arc rated clothes that I have...one they do not wear near as well as normal work clothes and they do no clean up as well either. Most of what I have is constructed using Westex Indura Ultra Soft fabric.
