Can CAT-5 cable be run through a class 1 div 2 area into a purged enclosure without being run through conduit? Are there any considerations like I/S barriers which need to be considered at the origin or termination of the line? Use will be LAN connectivity for data trending and capture of a control module output.
Thank you-

Take a look at:

501.10 Wiring Methods.
(B) Class I, Division 2.

That should answer your question.

No IS barriers are necessary. PLTC grade cable can be run in cable channel or tray and since the enclosure is purged a cable gland will suffice to terminate the cable.

Make sure your Cat5 cable is PLTC rated. Most are not. Try Belden 7922A. Standard RJ45 connectors won't work. OD is to large. Try Phoenix connectors, VS-08-RJ45-5-Q/IP20, or VS-08-RJ45-5-Q/IP67
