cat 5 hook up

i went to a place today and the owner asked me about hooking up a cat5 outlet . the jack was an older 8 screw
style and i wasn't sure of the hook up. how does the numbering go on the jack and what colors go where...:ashamed1:

If it's got screws, it's probably not rated Cat V, probably an old 4 line phone jack. I would change it to a better jack. Just google it and you should find what you need.

While it may be an RJ-45 outlet, it definitely is not CAT5 rated. Gotta replace it with a CAT5e jack.

What is he doing with the opening ? Not being cat5 only hurts if you need cat 5 speed. POTS works fine to surf the web etc.
