I had a question come in today regarding a proposed installation of cat-5 cable in a repair garage. The electrician wants to mount the cable using straps and anchors to a cement block wall about 15 feet in height above the floor. He wants to know if he has to use conduit or if he can just run the cable exposed like he suggested. What would you do? How would you rule? :-? :)

What I would do is stick it in conduit, 'cos the stuff is not mechanically very strong. Once its got to the roof in cable tray or whatever it'll be out of harms way.

As to how I would rule - I lack the juristiction :)

Okay, you're saying protect it where it could be subject to mechanical abuse and then use a bushing on the end of the conduit and transition to open wiring methods above harms way. Great idea. I'll relay this on. :) Thanks.
