Is there any requirement to keep CAT 5E and CATV cables above 7' in an attic with pull down stairs? I see where this requirement applies to AC and NM cables but I can't find a prohibition for CAT 5E and CATV cables, so I'm assuming that they are permitted anywhere in an attic space. I have an installation where the GC wants us to hang the cables on J hooks below the roof rafters about 4' above the attic floor. Is this code compliant?

Running above the trusses and hanging in J hooks will be beneficial considering interference can be a major consideration.Cat 5 is very susceptible to buzzing when run in close proximity to building wiring.800.6 lists hangers as one means of installing com.wiring and it must conform to 300.4 D.This goes for coaxial cable too.Si I guess that since it must be protected in accordance with 300.4 D the argument that within 7 ft of attic stairs is an area of physical damage and it must be installed the same as building wiring.
