I am looking at an intercom install that Firefox/OnQ states requires Cat5/5e. The house is fully wired with appropiate home runs with Cat3.

Any idea if this can be used here or do I need to pull new wire?

I have a feeling it's going to be just fine. These aren't network devices. Just a regular audio signal, far as I know. It's been a while since OnQ training. I have another to go to in September, I think.

No voice application of any kind requires anything over CAT3, in fact voice circuits will work on "CAT Nothing", as in unrated cabling. Even CAT3 is overkill, so you will be fine.

The one exception to this might be ISDN where CAT5 or above is specified, however I can attest that I have four ISDN phones working in my home on spare pairs of existing CAT Nothing cable. Much of this is simply manufacturer hooplah.

I'm inclined to agree. You *should* be fine with Cat 3.
