I see, that the standard cat 5 cable my wholeslaer stocks is rated "outdoor". Does that mean it can properly be used in a wet location?

What is a max length I can (should) use between an HMI and PLC before hitting a network switch or router. Say 300' from HMI to switch than another 300' to PLC

I suspect that it does. The easiest way to find out for sure is to ask the cable manufacturer.

For ethernet it is 100 meters cable length.
