I recently agreed to upgrade an existing Cat5 network to a certified Cat6 network including a new cabinet and patch panel. It's done but it took me way too long for various reasons. It's been a long time since I did a network. It was a per hr. job, but that wouldn't be fair to the customer now. I'm trying to find the average rate per certified drop, so I can calculate a fair billing. What do you charge per drop? I was recently told that $200 is the norm.

Right here.
Havn't done any Cat6 yet. I'm kinda curious my own self.

Consequently, what type of customer was this (generally)? I'm curious who'd pay to take that small of a jump from Cat5 to 6? Perhaps I'm missing a marketing opportunity.

It was an animal hospital, with 24 stations. They had a poorly installed typical 10/100 cat5 system, with a basic router and dsl router. It sort of grew with the business. They wanted to go paperless, but they have had nothing but trouble with the existing setup and everyone was complaining.
A friend of mine who does large corporate systems designed a better system. Now they have a state of the art "gigabyte" speed system. Complete with a hardware firewall, etc.

P.S. When installing a high speed "gig." system, insist on name brand, quality parts!!

did you certify it? or just use a basic tester to check for breaks and crosses?

a tester to certify it will run you about $9000, so figure it in.

Non certified, $200 is fine (average run 50-60')

Certified about $400-$450.

But these are BS numbers and aren't super helpful cause I just made them up off the top of my head.:)
