I just trimmed out a remodel with Leviton Decora devices in the almond color. After getting the wallplates on, and turning on the lights, we noticed that a lot of the switches weren't the same color. It looked terrible actually.

I called Leviton today. They informed me that there was a "bad run" of almond colored Decora devices, and that the store I bought them from would need to ship them all back and get a new stock.

I bought these at HD because they're the only ones that carry the almond Decora devices and had them readily available.

I went to HD today and we pulled every box of almond devices off the shelf, and found three different shades of almond.

All of the receptacles matched the wallplates, as did the 4-ways and almost every three-way. But there are three shades of single pole switches.

Just a heads up if you're going to purchase any of these; double-check that everything matches up.

I think this came up before and there was an almond and a light almond.

that's a possibility. I know P&S makes a light almond, but all the packaging is labeled almond, and Leviton told me on the phone they knew about a problem with the colors.

Pass and Seymour, Cooper, and Leviton/Lutron all have differing shades of these. What a mess. Now Lutron has the designer series with all kinds of special order headaches. I need that in Mauve, Maude.

My first action would be to pull all the devices, then take them to a well lit area and try to see how many shades there were.

I would then divide the switches into groups so that all the same shade would be installed in the same rooms.

No one will notice that the switches in the bedroom are not the same color as the switches in the kitchen.

But will notice none of the devices quite match the plates.

yep.

All the 3-ways, 4-ways, and receps match each other and the wallplates, so that idea won't work. I think I have maybe two 3-ways that don't match. Its very apparent in multigang switch boxes where different types are mixed.

IMHO the Levitton almond colored devices are way off color for most of the current day bathroom and kitchen tiles. The P & S light almond devices are more suitable to blend in with counter tops and back splashes. Most of the supply houses around my way don't even carry Levitton almond devices any more. If you carry sample wall plates on your truck (white, light almond, almond and ivory) you'll find that most homeowners will pick either white or light almond. Just my 2 cents worth.

I cringe if my customers find out about almond. Its always a mess. I am also thinking they have no idea the difference between Ivory and Almond. But whats in a name. You say Potato I say potata...

I actually did a house for these folks last year too and they picked the P&S light almond; they wanted something "slightly" different this time and picked the Leviton almond.

Its funny because all the paint colors are almost exactly as they are in the last house. only "slightly" different.

P&S light almond

P&S light almond

I agree with an earlier poster, P&S light almond goes well with most of the tile and stone being used in kitchens and baths today...I NEVER hear anyone request IVORY, ivory is more of a 1985 office color, makes me think of office cubicles and harsh fluorescent lighting.

One thing I don't like about P&S however is that all of their devices are matte finish, and as such they are porous and can get dirty easily, especially the white GFCIs.
