How far away can the circuit protective device be located on the input to a typical delta/wye 480/208V transformer? 110.58 says it must be WITHIN SITE on tunnel installations over 600 volts. Where is the rule for normal equipment rooms?

Re: CB Distance from a transformer

Theoretically, you can go 25 feet on the secondary side in a building. The voltage ratio is considered 2.3:1 according to the NEC Handbook which means that the secondary falls under the 25 foot rule.

In a high bay building where the transformer is located in the ceiling you are allowed 35 feet.

If the transformer is located outdoors and the secondary breaker indoors then you can have any distance outside and up to 25 feet inside. Since it is not a service the rule is similar but not the same as a service.

In certain industrial situations 75 feet is allowed. Just go and read the Article 240 rules.
