I will be installing a circuit for a ceiling fan in a new screened in porch. I assume this is a damp location. I plan to use UF cable and purchase a fan suitable for a damp location. What type of box is available for this situation? I assume it needs to be weather proof and suitable to support a fan?

If it is concealed the wiring and the box are likely considered dry locations the fan would still need to be suitable for damp locations though.

Some people do think anything that penetrates an exterior finish is wet or damp though, NEC is not all that clear on this and we have split hairs on this site on the subject before.

Sorry, I forgot to mention the porch ceiling is unfinished and exposed. The fan box will be mounted on an exposed wooden rafter or beam.

Well 334.10 Uses permitted says NM cable is permitted in "normally dry locations" so if you have a damp location NM cable is out, you proposed UF cable and that would be acceptable.

314.15 says: "In damp or wet locations, boxes, conduit bodies, outlet box hoods, and fittings shall be placed or equipped so as to prevent moisture from entering or accumulating within the box, conduit body, or fitting. Boxes, conduit bodies, outlet box hoods, and fittings installed in wet locations shall be listed for use in wet locations."

I think your typical ceiling fan box would be acceptable in most damp locations, but would need to be listed for use if it were a wet location.

I have also used a kitchen "pie pan" as a roof or a drip shield to cover a round bell box.

Is there a waterproof "Good Stuff" that you can just completely spray the wiring and box with?

I doubt it, but I'd like to hear why that wouldn't be acceptable.

Actually there is, can't remember what it was called. It was a "water repellent" that would even keep water from entering smaller holes in a surface up to a certain pressure. Been quite some time but was in a thread on this site.

Not saying NEC would recognize that product for that purpose but there is things like that out there.
