Ceiling fan pricing

I have seen them with the fan and down rod 20 ft. away from the motor.
It has a belt and pully system. Designed to look old or different, I guess.

I have installled about 10 of the bigger ones, pretty easy install as long as the GC and ironworker put the iron where you ask them to. Scissor lift is an absolute must, those motors are HEAVY. We would balance the motor on the rails and maneuver the lift directly under the brackets, lift into place, bolt, wire, get someone to hand us up blades (FYI, putting the blades on by yourself sucks, it is better to have someone helping you tweak the blade to line up the second bolt hole), then go and mount and wire the control and let 'er rip. All in all it took 2 guys an average of 6 hours to install, not including initially getting the power there.

I've changed out VFD's on a couple, and indentified a growling gear box, but never hung one. The guys that I worked with had hung them before and said they were very heavy.....Also I noticed these had a safety cable tied to them in case the mounting would fail, AND the had a very large guard fabricated to keep some one from raising up into the fan from a man lift. It was just a large angle iron frame say 1'', then painted yellow and had small guage air craft cable strunk across it in a 2ft grid, then hung from the red iron...

is it worth it??

is it worth it??

those fans cost thousands.. I don't see the difference other that having people stare at the ceiling and saying... "that is a big a$$ fan".. you could buy 20 of the smaller ones most factories have.. the hot air doesn't know the difference

All the ones I did were part of a Health Club franchise, pretty much for the "oooh ahhhh" factor if you ask me. Don't get me wrong they move air but IMHO are not worth the price.
