Ceiling fan remote

One of my coworkers installed a Hunter ceiling fan, that came with a remote control. He got a call from the HO that the fan and light will turn on by themselves. This has happened several times since it was installed Friday.
There are no other fan in the house.

Any thoughts as to the cause?

This question has come up before, so you may get some info with a search.

Last time it came up I gave the following example, so I'll do it again here. I have two remote control ceiling fans in my house. They were there when I bought the place and I have no idea what brand they are or anything. Anyway, the point is that if a blackout or even a brownout comes through, when power returns the lights come on (and the fans too if that switch was on as well). Their 'default' position is on I guess.

If the power hasn't been flickering at your co-workers house then I can't help you. :D

Do the neighbors live real close like in many subdivisions? Some of those remotes will pick up a signal from a distance.

I guess I would just change the code first off to see if that helps. If that doesn't do it then you will have to change out the remote.

All this stuff is now made in China so you know it's all top quality. :grin:

Sorry, one other bit of info - the dip switches were left at the factory settings. The remote did work properly before Ed left.

agreed. We had this problem awhile back and we just changed the dip switch settings. They said the fan would come on every morning at 4:00. Well that just happened to be the time the neighbor was getting up for work and had the same fan remote. Changing the dip switches took care of the problem

I had that same problem with a Hunter fan. It came on when the neighbor used his garage door remote. I just had to set the first dip switch to a higher number and problem solved.

Yeah, same here. What about that one occasion when we just happen to use the same code that the neighbor used? :grin:

Had to go back and change that one unit's code again ... :rolleyes:

I had a similar problem a while back garage door opening for no reason, turned out his kid decided to play a trick and set his Harmoney remote (tv cable etc..) to work the garage door. Drove everyone crazy trying to find the problem. Now I ask what other remotes are in the house and can I see them.
