I have simple question reqrding the wiring of a ceiling fan. In the 99 NEC it is considered an appliance. Can it be wired to one of the general purpose circuits, or does it require its own seperate circuit, or if its less than some % of the ciruit you use general purpose and if is is more than some % it is wired separtely? I haven't found a clear definition for this, might not be looking in the right place?

Thanks.

Re: ceiling fan

You may have to go to your local inspector or electrician to find this requirement. I would say that the ceiling fan is a general purpose load on the system there by allowing for connection to a general purpose line. The percentage of load on the line may tell you that the load (ceiling fan) may need another general purpose line run for it but not just it.
