I have been looking in the code for a minimum hieght requirement for ceiling fans and am having trouble finding one. At work they want to drop the ceilings to 8'feet and that would put the fan and its light kit at about 6'6", this is very low and is there a code with height requirements?

Re: ceiling fans

Most of the fans I have installed stated in the instructions blades should be no lower than about 8' (this from memory..and it appears that may be failing  , might be 7').

Check #'s 14 & 17 here: http://www.hunterfan.com/support/fan-faq.php#14

The picture here shows height at 8" also: http://www.casablancafanco.com/services/faq/faq.html#downrod

This height may be for the fan housing, allowing the blades to be at no lower than 7'6" - but not all housing are the same size.

When in doubt, you can always check the manufac. website for details specific to your fan.

Re: ceiling fans

this is a quote from "Leading Edge":

"UL 507 states Ceiling Fans suspended from 7 feet to less than 10 feet (blade height to floor) nust have a minimum thickness of edge of blade 3/16"

I would take that to mean the minimum height is 7', but that might only apply to industrial areas.

I don't know if you can get UL 507 online?
