Good Evening,
A question came to us from our customer. How can I put a cellular base station in an area rated NEC Class 1 Division 2 Types C & D. This area is located in a gas and oil field / refinery.
1. We know that our equipment is not rated for this application, it would have to be put into a container.
2. We are not sure how serious the customer is when the cost vs. return is debated.
Questions: Anybody done this? How much cost? (I would consider a shelter $60,000 as okay if compliant) Who can I contact?

1. A "Type Z" pressurized enclosure per NFPA 496 would probably be my first choice. Most refineries have enough plant/instrument air available.

2. Cost vs. benefit is an economic decision - that I can't help you with.

I would start with Rohn Industries and ask them if they have ever had a tower go up in such an area...
