Good morning everyone, I am concerned about a question brought up to me a few days ago. I am an electrical contractor just received in Dec. 03.The question is are the J sheets still in effect the gentlemen I was helping "because im currently slow with new work, told me that we no longer have to follow the J-sheets handed out by the county which states your 6 recepts. per circuit combos of 8 and 10 lights... He was telling me that he was PUTTING 13 RECEPTS PER CIRCUIT. Is this legal in central Fla.Or was he pullin my leg. Any comments will be greatly appreciated. This is residential work.

Re: Central Fla. "J-Sheets"

The state of Florida has adopted the 2002 NEC and no longer permits the individual jurisdictions to enforce local codes or admendments to the code. With that being said, the code does not specify a maximum number of outlets permitted on a single branch circuit for dwelling installations.

Re: Central Fla. "J-Sheets"

BPH, did you mean commercial instead of residential??? Or were you refering to small appliance circuits???

There are some NEC limits on the number of receptacles in a residential dwelling.

Steve, there are required circuits in residential installations, but no limit to the number of receptacles on them.

Re: Central Fla. "J-Sheets"

I knew I should have looked that up before posting. I remembered it somewhat backwards. 180VA per strap applies to most commercial outlets, and MOST residential outlets are exempt. Specifically, 180VA does not apply to small appliance and general purpose lighting branch circuits in dwellings.

The code does leave the 180VA per outlet open for some dwelling receptacles. But I can't imagine what branch circuit in a dwelling would not be for a specific load, and would not be a small appliance or general lighting circuit, nor a bathroom receptacle circuit?

Re: Central Fla. "J-Sheets"

Bryan I guess you haven`t dealt with Pasco county FL.There are requirements that I can`t find in the NEC.1 being labeling non gfci single receps. in a garage appliance use only or if for an irrigation transformer just that irr. recep. or freezer etc.How about requiring us to expose a uffer for a final when uffer is signed off with the rough in.Expose and cut below grade on rough but now expose on a final
