Has anyone taken the new Master or Residential Certified Electrical Inspector exam sponsored by the IAEI? If so, maybe you can answer some questions.

How does it compare in difficulty with the existing NCPCCI examination?

Is it gaining acceptance around the country?

The applicant handbook refers to the UL White Book and the NFPA Electrical Inspection Manual, along with the NEC, as study references. Does the test include questions from sources other than the NEC?

What is your experience with the hands on portion of the certification? That is, the required electrical inspections for those who pass the written part of the test.

Thanks

Re: Certified Electrical Inspector Exam

In my opinion the UL White Book is the rest of the NEC. 110.3(B) can't be followed without access to or knowledge of the UL White Book.

I don't have a clue what the NFPA Electrical Inspection Manual consists of and I have never heard of it. Someone else will have to address that part of your question. :D

I have this manual, based on the 2002 NEC,from the NFPA..

Re: Certified Electrical Inspector Exam

Finhead, I took the Master exam in April of 2004.
Question #1. Have never took the NCPCCI exam so I can not comment.
Question #2. From what I can gather the test did not have much popularity in the beginning. I waited 8 months to recieve my score. But I believe it is gaining some acceptance.
Question #3. The exam from what I can remember had very few questions relating primarily to the "White Book". The question outline included in the applicant handbook as to they actually cover on the exam is pretty accurate. The test is basiclly derived from the 2002 NEC although they use the "Inspection Manual" as a study guide and reference.
Question #4. I am currently about 60% with the "Practicum Phase". It has been kind of tough for me to get the required supervised inspections because of my current role as an inspector in an industrial setting. We have our own generating facility and I don't normally look at any services nor do we have any single or multi-family dwellings at this site. One of our area inspectors has agreed to help me out with this. More to come. Hope this helps...
