I'm curious if anyone has been able to install a main breaker with a hold down in a Challenger panel of this vintage. 100A main breaker, I think a BR is listed but I'm not sure about the hold down.

If the breaker is listed for the panel, why would the hold down kit not be listed assuming the panel accepts the kit.

Well, I should say I'm fairly positive BR is okay as a branch breaker for this panel, but as main breaker.... I'm not so sure.

I've had trouble using that hold down kit once or twice in old Bryant panels that I thought would take it (and some do). I'm wondering if anyone recalls being successful in a Challenger.

Are you converting this panel from a main lug panel to a main breaker panel?

That would be the idea, yes.

Thanks for the responses.
