I am in the process of wiring a master bedroom & bath addition. The home owner wants to install a chandelier over a jacuzzi platform tub. If the chandelier is over 8' from the top of the tub does it comply with article 410.4 (D)? It seems to me the restricted area is 8' up & 3' out, anything out of that area is OK. Am I right in that assumption? Thanks for any help.

Re: Chandelier over tub

If you mean spa or hot tub with the term jacuzzi, then I believe the requirement for lighting locations would be in 680.43(B) and not 410.4(D).

This section states any fixture within 5' of the inside wall of the spa or hot tub shall have clearances above maximum water level of:

(a) without GFCI protection, 12 feet
(b) with GFCI protection, 7 feet - 6 inches

The is a part (c), but I do not think it applies to your situation. :)

If it fits the definition of a hydromassage bathtub -680.2- and all parts of the fixture are more than 8' above rim of the tub -410.4(d)- it sounds like it would conform to the code. That must be a high ceiling though.
