I received these numbers for a change in service which seem high to me, but I do not estimate projects everyday like some of you do. I would like your opinions if you think these are extremely high, high or about right. This project is in Maine.

Thanks.

"The cost to change the electrical service based on the revised drawings is $6237.19
Here is the list of changes and additions:
1) Increase breaker in landlord 2000 amp switchboard from 100amp to 200amp Sq.D I ? Line style. Contract called to change existing 450amp to 100amp breaker. The cost of the 200amp brkr less the cost of the 100amp brkr is $1046.00
2) Increase wire size from 4 - # 3 CU & 1 # 8 CU to 4 - # 3/0 CU & 1 - # 4 CU Difference in cost $1589.36
3) The utility company (CMP) will not allow the use of blanks on the unused conduit openings in the existing meter enclosure; this will require a new 200amp 3-ph with by-pass handle. Cost $529.76
4) The new wireway and associated hardware is an add with additional labor Cost $326.89
5) The new 200amp 3-ph fusible disconnect with 3 ? 150 amp fuses is an add with additional labor. Cost $1269.46

6) The 4? conduit run provided by the landlord is not finished in their Electrical Room # 5,this will require approx. 40? with two ninety degree sweeps and will need to be terminated in the switchboard with all the necessary fittings and hardware, this too will add labor to complete. Cost $1475.72"

This is how low bidders save their butts

Not quite. Get pricing on the breaker. Did he already order/buy the 100A? Is there a restocking fee? How soon is it needed? I-line is expensive to add to.

Your material cost on the 4" will be around $400+ what is involved in the run? 5' AFF? 10'? 20' and requiring a lift?

It is the game though. The harder the owner/GC beats the subs up for initial pricing, the bigger the change order numbers.

What does RS Means have for labor times for the tasks?

No work has been done or nothing ordered as of yet. About 12' to bottom of joist in the electrical room. I do understand that change orders usually come out on the high end of the spectrum and can deal with that as long as it's not excessive. By some of your responses, it seems that these prices fall into the "about right" category.

When I bid a job and get this response I usually would ask what your estimate came out to.

Another response when I hear "that seems high to me" would be to ask based on what?
