Hello all, long time lurker, first post.

For no good reason I was flipping through my copy of 2014 today and noticed that 680.42 (A) (1) changed from 2011 to no longer limit the length of the liquidtight to 6 feet external to a hot tub. This seems a bit strange to me as one could now end up with quite a bit of flexible conduit (line of sight + whats in the tub) going from their disconnect to the tub.

Any idea why the relaxation? Is there something that I am missing?

The real question to me was why was there a 6' limit in the first place. You still need an equipment grounding conductor so the length should not have any bearing on it other than possible damage. We would still be subject to protecting the LFNC from damage.

Fair enough, I suppose I never questioned the 6 feet before - just complied by it. I was just reading this and had a horrible image of someone having 50ish feet of liquidtight running across their lawn from the disconnect into their tub but your right they could never get away with this due to 356.
