changing pvc to emt

I have several pvc's coming out of a concrete deck to an exposed ceiling about 20 ' from the panel. I always put a pull box or trough and change to emt, Was wondering if you guys would just use a change over fitting instead.

some one tell me if im wrong but i would go male adaptor to rigid coupling to emt - unless i needed that pull box

Why not a female adapter and an EMT connector, save the rigid coupling.
