Looking to size conductors for a trough, the values in table 5 and table 8 are different area in.^2 say for 1 awg thhn (table 5) and table 8. Just confused on which table is for what?

Table 8 is for uninsulated conductors. If you're looking for raceway fill you'll need the table for insulated conductors based on THHN.
