Chattanooga and licensing

I am thinking about relocating to Chattanooga, Tenn. I am currently licensenced and operate in NC off my receprocial (NC -GA) from my Georgia non restricted license.

There appears of some kind of independent (not recognizing Tenn lower level license - less than $25,000) licensing in certain parts of Tenn. Hamilton County and Chattanooga appears to be one of these and as best as I can tell issues their own electrical license. Anyone have information on this process? Is there some kind of process to license/work there for just small stuff?

I am almost 62 and the work I want to focus on is small service work. Nothing major just a wind down to retirement in a few years.

Also what's a going rate for hourly and service calls in this area?

Any help much appreciated.

Chattanooga and the associated County, Hamilton, require a local electrical contractors license for all firms performing electrical work. As I recall, there are three basic licenses available: Class 1 Contractor, Residential (Class II Contractor) & Sign Contractor. In addition there are licenses for personnel employed directly by the industrial facilities.
Licensing can be obtained by testing once required experience is documented or by proof of possession of a State of TN Contractors License (CE).
The State also has a limited license (LLE) but that is not honored by the City of Chattanooga or Hamilton County and is not valid for obtaining a Chattanooga License.
I don't recall if there are any States with which the City has reciprocal agreements but the City Licensing Board can be reached at (423) 894-9053
Their Chief Inspector is a member of this forum and you can PM him (pdmtn)

Rates vary as you have choices from service personnel working from the trunk of their car to fully staffed contractors.
