Hi,
Is it typical to perform insulation resistance checks(megger) on new control/instrumentation/power cabling? I think it would make sense to test/verify a cable is not damaged during installation for longer cable runs. But for shorter runs of cabling/wiring in controls/instrumentation circuits, is this typically done?
Thanks,
EE

All depends on your customers specs. I work in the oil/gas industry a lot. Most of the time on new construction some company’s will like power conductors (feeder/branch) to be meggered.

Even megger some heat trace from time to time.

But I don’t think I have ever had to megger digital/analog, input/outputs. Although I have had inspectors want control wiring to have a continuity check done.
