thats a big part of it.

you have to remember that everything that happens in chicago is based on someone in city government getting a cut somehow.

if pipe is required, there is more money in the pot to leach off.
 
Been workin in Chicagoland are my whole carreer and have run some of the biggest residential jobs in the area. I am now doing a Dell Webb retirement community for Pulte Homes.

My project before this was a romex job at the Great Lakes Naval Staion and we did 400 homes in NM. This was a govt. job so they go the cheapest route possible. I liked it and its easier on the body.

The resi work must be pipe not only in Chicago but pretty much all northern illinois.

I think I have met 1 electrician (notorius cheapskate) who said he would do his own home in romex and 300 that would use pipe.

This says alot imo.
