Since all wiring must be in raceway, how are data networks wired?

A home run pipe for each drop back to a data center? Each drop piped into a cable tray?

Does anyone have any good pictures of a typical Chicago commercial installation?

Oh, and while I'm asking, I assume this means for the average big box store, the ReLoc system for lighting isn't permitted/used?

Pete ....this may just be a "bad weekend" for such a question ~ many people go away ....give it until Monday:wink:

I have heard are widely favored because they have some sort of tax advantage they are not considered permanant sort of like rented furniture so they can be ammortized over a few years I think. As far as chicago goes most townships post thier information on the web nowadays although poorly run sites can be difficulot to navigate many times the information you seek is available on the specific towns website. I have friends who have worked in Chicago I will see if I can contact them sometime early in the week when I have more time. Gotta run and fill a dumpster some fun on a Sunday.

I think that there are generally few pictures on the net of Chicago style work anyhow. I've seen maybe only a few dozen EMT wired Chicago dwellings.

It's the "Chicago Secret" ...if they released pictures of all the elite pipe work, then the rest of country would do the same and Chicago would lose their "elite" status :D

I don't work in Chicago and their code is not available online. It costs about $150 a copy. Not sure how many big box stores there are in Chicago itself. I know that there is only one Walmart and that resulted in a huge political fight to get it built...not sure if it is even open yet.

I'm in Norther Illinois approx. 50 miles NW of Chicago, though I don't work in Chicago at all. Most of my surrounding towns are conduit-only, or conduit with flex allowed for fishing. I do very little LV, so my response will be limited to...

Illinois has no state lic.. Every building department chooses which year NEC to adopt and decides if they wish to ammend the NEC. I usually speak with the inspector where I intend to install. Answers about any installation can change as new NECs are adopted, as new ammendments to the NEC are adopted, or depending on which inspector you speak with. I'm never automatically informed about which NEC is adopted or what the amendments are, if any. I have to ask.

I've personally never run LV in conduit, or been required to.
