I'm changing out a fixture from T12 to T8's and I'm wondering how to choose my ballast. They're 18" lamps, I need a little more understanding on the ballasts to use, I'm on a Island so without ordering them from the mainland I only have a few to choose from. How do you tell what size lamp it's for in length, or do you just go by the wattage? I'm confused. Thanks.

Thanks Rocky, yeah I'm on Kodiak, I'm still searching the site you gave me I hav'nt found anything really yet. I'm wondering if I could just use something like a F17T8 2 lamp ballast for this application the new bulbs would be 15w.

Another idea - Call GEXPRO over in Anchorafe. They are the GE distributors. They also have a some pretty sharp people in lighting. Jason might be a good person to start with.

They are at - (907) 561-1980

They're not on "contractor row", but close. Over off of Dowling and Silverado.

Ok, so I thought about it, what I was wondering was if say a 4' ballast would work for my 18" lamps, probably, but I guess that would change the UL listing so I could'nt do it. Thanks Rocky, I'll just order the right ballast.

That's the least of reasons to match ballast to tube(s).

I've looked at everyone's sites, I have no problem ordering the correct ballast, but I'm actually looking for and article or reference more to the understanding of why this is the least of the reasons. Thank you.
