Cieling fan wiring - outlet box

I replaced an existing fan yesterday, and all went well in the cieling with the receiver hooking in the white and black from the box, and connecting to the blue, white, and black of the fan (blue is for light). The question is, on the wall box, there are only 3 wires, a black that says "to light (do not connect to white)", another black that says "to fan (do not connect to white)", and the ground. Obviously, ground was fine to house ground, and I spliced both blacks to the wall black. I capped the white from the wall, since there was nothing to connect it to.

What am I missing, what did I do wrong?

Will something work with the white from the house simply capped?

I do not want to add the mysterious "third wire" from the wall to the fan, and since I have the receiver there, I do not feel I need to.

You guys rock, and if this is the wrong forum, I apologize. Please answer then yell at me to go to another forum.

If I were you, I would hire a licensed and insured electrical contractor to come out and look over the installation for you.

The reasons we hire electricians is the same reason we hire plumbers, car mechanics, accountants, financial planners, attorneys, etc... they are all experts in their respective fields and can discern when a "fine" detail makes the difference between success and failure.

This NEC? Forum is for those in the electrical and related industries.

Questions of a "How-To" nature by persons not involved in the electrical industry will be removed without notice.

I am closing this thread for the above reasons.
