I was on a roof top and found ( 2 ) 230 volt, 30 amp A/C circuits and ( 1 ) 120 volt 20 amp circuits spliced in the same J box. Are 3 circuits were located in 3 different panels on 3 different floors. For some reason I thought it was against code to have circuits from different panels combined in the same raceway or J box. However, I was proven wrong when the code said it was OK as long as the insulation value of the wire was the same. I thought there would be a disconnecting issue on this ..Nothing was marked..I think this is totally wrong...Can someone give me some more input on this..Is it OK..or Not OK..Thanks:cool:

It is not against code, it is pretty common. You can have several sources of power even in a electrical panel.

Always test for power, do not assume.

Of course that said there are some rules in 210.5 that may have to be considered.

This is and has been a code permitted method for as long as I can remember.
It is not a dangerous situation, as long as a professional is working on the installation. One of the issues today is that there is less of a percentage of professionals who are performing electrical work in todays market.

Thanks for the quick reply Bob...I never assume..thats how I found all of the panels...I'm changing it any way..it very easy to get all the circuits on a direct run..Thanks again

So I can't help but ask.

Your going to spend the customers or bosses money 'fixing' an issue that is not an issue just because it bothers you?

Thats a fair question..The box is rotted out and the metal conduits have lost their bond..The A/C units are in Seal Tight and can swing over to their exisiting disconnects..The repairs are being done anyway
