Circuit Breaker Cross Reference Chart?

I sell electrical products for a large home improvement center and need some information for my customers.

Can anyone tell me where I can go on line to get a cross reference chart that will tell me what specific brands of circuit breakers will work in another manufacture's panel?

I often get this question from my customers. I know some breakers will fit another manufactures panel ( I can tell by comparing the size, footprint and connectors of two different brands).

The manufactures are unwilling to provide me with such a chart, because they don't want me selling a competitors product. However, there are times when I am out of stock on a specific brand, or do not carry the brand the customer needs. That is when I get the question of what other brands will work.

I hope someone can help with this request.

You can't do that!! Just because it fits does not mean that you can use it in the panel. You need to be selling UL "classified" breakers. These are breakers that have been tested and are permitted to be used in the panels made by other manufacturers. UL requires that these breakers be supplied with a list of panels that they can be used with. You must either use a breaker that is listed for use in the panel (that would be a breaker that is suppled by the manufacturer of the panel) or a breaker that is classified for use in specific panels (this breaker would not be of the same manufacturer as the panel). Some breakers are listed for use in one panel and classified for use in other panels. Use of a breaker that is not either listed or classified for use in the panel is a code violation.

The white book itself does not have the breaker list in it. That list is supplied with the classified breaker.

Re: Circuit Breaker Cross Reference Chart?

Curiously, Despots in Palm Beach were stocking Cutler BR's (but no Cutler panels) and claiming they would fit a whole list of stuff...

It would make more sense for them to stock the Cutler CL line, then they really could have made the claim with something to back it up.
