I have to wire a service (underground) from a transformer that is fed underground froma pole at the street. From the pole there are 3 (I think 3/0 in size) going down the pole through condiut to feed the transformer. I figure since the primary has three wires, the transformer will produce 3 phase on the secondary. The transformer is locked so the city power company can be the only one to open it. You think this transformer may also be able to supplu single phase secondary? Im asking because my service is only going to supply an ATM machine, the canopy lights and a small heat/air unit. Plus we need to order the disconnect and meter base.

all of POCO 3 phase transformers have single phase capability...however, if its the CORRECT voltage and will handle the load is something POCO would have to confirm.

We also have to offer a voltage that has a tariff. If it happened to be a 480 bank, we would not give you a 480/277 volt, 1? service.

Contact the serving electric utility and let them tell you what is available. :)

I met with someone from the Light company. I also found out that we will be getting 120/208 3 phase. This person opened up the transformer so I could see what I was getting into (I have never had to bring a service to the transformer before). It's gonna be tight. This transformer was installed for the business that it sits behind. There are already 3 4" stubs and 1 1" (for the CT meter) on the secondary side already. I need to bring 1 1-1/2" also into this section.

Today we had a sub bore the 140' just 18" outside of the transformer, the rest will have to be hand dug. I have never done a job like this before. I learned one thing already. Never use sticks of conduit for bore jobs especially on a cold day. The first stick came loose 60' into the pull. This set us back another 45 minutes. On the next pull I kept "push" pressure on the conduit. I dont know if it helped, but this time it made the pull.

The sub also had to bore 230' for 2" all the way to the pole at the street (this is for the phone line). 60' shy of completing the bore, the machine broke down. I could not wait around till 7pm to get my conduit ready for insp in the morning. Looks like I will have to go into work real early to beat the insp.
