Help me out here. What are you talking about calculating? Cable size? Cable ampacity? Voltage Drop? Service size?

This is a long shot, but I think he might be refering to the AIC rating of a circuit breaker.
Article 240.86 refers to series ratings, and I know there are some other requirements for AC equipment. But I can't seem to find the basic requirement that the AIC rating of a breaker must exceed the available fault current of the source.

Our local AHJ requires short circuit calculations for every new service and panel (which I think may be somewhat unique.)
