When installing outdoor antennas (radios) and the unshielded (UTP) ethernet cables going to the inside of a building, we always used a station protector across each one of the eight conductors of the etherent cable, as per NEC 2005 Article 810.20.

We are now using shielded (STP) ethernet cable that shields the individual wires the same way the braided metal sheath of satellite TV coax.

As I understand it, the coax grounding block only grounds the braided metal sheath of the coax and does not have any MOS or gas-tube protectors for the center conductor inside the grounding block.

Would the individual ethernet wires still have to have a station protector now that they are enclosed in a metal sheath that is properly grounded?
