A question has came up, do the thermals need to be used on dual rated motors when the motor is installed in a class 1 div 1 area?

Re: Class 1 Div 1 motors

What do you mean by dual rated? Is this motor listed for Class 1 Division 1? What does the listing and labeling information say?

Why would you not use the thermals? Is there a reason that you do not need them or have provisions to use them? I do not understand, explain.

parrothead,
Now you need the listing and labeling information. Some motors that are for use in both Class 1 and Class 2 locations, only require the thermals to be used when the motor is installed in a Class 2 location. Others require the thermals to be used in both locations. You need to contact the manufacturer for these details if you don't already have them.
