In my plant I have an instrument rack outside of a classed area, the conduit however runs through a class1 div1 area then back out. Do the seals need to be poured?
Probably; however see Section 501.15(A)(4) and it's Exception 1 for a full review.martim1 said:In my plant I have an instrument rack outside of a classed area, the conduit however runs through a class1 div1 area then back out. Do the seals need to be poured?

DUCKMAN said:The seal material must be a listed compound for use with a sealing fitting. The common practice is to jam a wadding material in to the fitting to prevent the sealant from running down the conduit, and then filling the fitting. The only material I have used is called Chico. The compound must be poured to a thickness of at least 5/8 inch (2005 NEC 501.15(C)(3)).
jatrottpe said:The correct depth of sealing compound shall be NOT LESS than the trade size of the sealing fitting used (and in no case less than 5/8".)
If a 1" seal fitting is used the sealing compound shall be poured to a depth of 1", 1.5" conduit to a depth of 1.5", etc.
