I have a problem with a discontinued limit switch. It's an old SQD rated class 1 div 2 groups C&D. The new style limit switch is larger and will require a massive amount of rework for the mounting bracked. I found a replacement that is close to the same size but it is zone rated

● Explosion protection to
? CENELEC
? IEC
● For use in
? Zone 1 and Zone 2
? Zone 21 and Zone 22

Question is it permissable to use a limit switch with the above rating in a Class 1 div 2 area?

See Section 501.5. Please note the cross reference to 505.9(C)(2). Also note the clause "...
same gas and with a suitable temperature class."

If it is only certified to CENELEC/IEC it won't meet 505.9(C)(2).

What is the application of the limit switch? Valve position feedback? Check out TopWorx for their "GoSwitch" line. They make all variety of non-contact limit switches that only require a ferrous target, normally I specify a bolt head. They can be had in virtually any HazLoc certification that is required.

The limits are used on eyewash safety shower. I'm hoping to find a limit that is small enough to use the existing mounting plate. I've found many limits that meet the area classification but they would require welding a new bracket to the shower to mount the limit. I think I've found a nice AB limit what will work, just need to drill and tap the existing plate.
