Next to grounding, I would say that classified areas are one of the most misunderstood aspects of the NEC. I suggest getting a hazardous location book from either crouse hinds or appleton. Crouse calls it a 'code digest'. It's a 100-page book that covers articles 500-516 with easy to understand diagrams. After spending many years in industrial environments, I find it a highly valuable resource for persons both trained and untrained on classified area requirements.
The Crouse-Hinds booklet discussed above is a great resource. I taught a class last Saturday on hazardous, and that booklet was handed out to all of the participants. I think everyone agreed that that is a book to hang on to...lots of good stuff in it.
