Hello Everyone,

I just want to thank anyone who replies in advance.

I am currently working on a project that involves replacing a panel in a Class 1 Division 1 location. This panel is located on the third floor of our building. We have access to the panel from the second floor via a small opening. The opening is not large enough to allow for the installation of sample lines as well as cable in conduit all the way to the panel termination point. As a result, only the sample lines fit. Cable terminations are made inside an explosion proof enclosure located at the bottom of the analyzer panel. The explosion proof enclosure is situated in the analyzer panel so that it sits directly above the opening to the second floor.

Due to the lack of space, I was wondering if is possible to enter a Class 1 Division 1 location with wire not in conduit? If I can enter, is there a type of connector or seal that I can place on the panel at the point the cable enters to maintain the safety seal?

Thanks in advance.

MI cable and some others are approved for Cl.I, Div.1 use. Of course intrinsically safe circuits can use many different type wiring but would still need to use an XP fitting to enter an XP panel.

Okonite and Southwire both make some great explosionproof cable(MC-HL). Add a connector from Appleton or Crouse-Hinds, that is rated C1D1, and you are good to go.
